4b/4c Stylez and Fashion

After posting my first post about how to achieve a sleek ponytail, I thought it was time to customize my page to look presentable. The themes that I considered were Twenty Nineteen, Barnsbury, and Stow. First of all, I made sure they were free. Second, I looked for simplicity but creativity. When I go on a website, I want to feel warm and welcomed, not overwhelmed by too much going on. Twenty Nineteen seemed simple, but to simple. The page seemed to organized and stiff. Barnsbury theme looked simple and colorful from the sample page, but when I looked at the overview, there was too much going on. Hence, not a fit for my blog. The theme I’ve settled on for my page is Stow. It is simple, but gives room for creativity. It is colorful, and looks welcoming to curious visitors.

I know you’re probably asking yourself “Why would her first post be a ponytail? Everybody can do that”. It turns out, not everyone successfully accomplish a smooth ponytail easily.

A few mistakes made while styling your hair in a ponytail is:

• Not detangling your hair first.
• Not hydrating before detangling.
• Not sectioning your hair before using a proper styling gel.

What you will need:

• A detangling brush.
• A hard bristle brush.
• A spray bottle with water and a little hair oil of your choice.
• An edge styling brush or unused toothbrush.
• A wide tooth comb.
• A rat tail comb.
• A styling gel eg. Eco, Got2b, Gorilla Snot, etc.
• Edge control gel or wax.
• 2 hair ties.
• 1 silk scarf

Steps to create a sleek ponytail with natural 4b/4c hair:

1. First, spray the hair with water and hair-oils (Tea Tree, Olive oil, Coconut Oil, Castor oil,etc).
2. Then use whatever detangling brush in your possession, and detangle your hair in sections.
3. When your hair feels soft and slightly damp, part your hair horizontally into two sections.
4. Use one of the hair tie to hold the front section.
5. The back section will be put into a ponytail first.
6. First brush the back section of your hair with with a hard bristle brush into a ponytail. It does not need to be perfect.
7. While holding that section, apply gel around that ponytail.
8. Brush the gel into the your hair, and then apply the hair tie. Tightly as if you are doing the entire hair.
9. Remove the hair tie in at the front half of your hair, and part vertically down the middle or left/right side. Whichever is preferred.
10. With on one side, use the rat tail comb edge to section the hair and apply gel in between the parts starting from the temple up.
11. Then brush downward with the hard bristle brush and swoop back into the half ponytail that was first created.
12. Temporarily hold it loosely with the other hair tie.
13. Proceed to do the other side. Section from the temple up while applying gel in between.
14. Also brush in a downward motion with the hard bristle brush and swoop toward the ponytail in the back.
15. Remove the last hair tie loosely applied and merge the two sides of the front half into the ponytail.
16. Apply the hair tie tightly.
17. The edge of your hair can be left in a puff or you can put it in a bun. (instructions later).
18. Now what’s left is to slick your edges.
19. Take a coin size amount and distribute it around the hairline.
20. Brush in the motion of the ponytail with an edge brush or unused toothbrush.
21. Tie your hair down with a silk scarf for five mins.

Now remove the head tie and take your hair for a spin!

In this first post I would like to introduce my self and explain why I’ve choosen to create a DIY for natural 4b/4c hair.

My name is Ni and I love learning new hair styles and trying it on myself by watching Youtube or Pintrest. It first started when I was a preteen and my mother still wanted to comb my hair with multi-color bubbles and clips. I made it a mission to learn how to cornrow my own hair by watching my friends mother comb their hair, then moved on to other styles such as flat twist, high ponytails, low ponytails and more. As I became older and enter into the working world, my hair styles had to evolve to keep up with the latest trends to my liking. However, when I search a picture or video, it shows part of the process to the style or routine. I get that there’s not enough time to show everything, but I believe there are more simple ways to let others effectively imitate a hairstyle and live their best life.

Why do this?

• Because we live in an age of convenience. We want everything easy and now.
• Because I want to achieve less moments of crying after a tutorial and more celebrating of your awesomeness.
• Because their are less tutorials for 4b/4c naturals with short hair.
• Because some people want to learn but can’t for the life of them follow the youtube tutorials.

My mission is to create fun styles to inspire the everyday naturalista with short hair.
